Fertilizer Big Earth Blend 8-2-12 plus 4 Magnesium 3mo 50lb

A great fertilizer for all seasons, 8-2-12 + 4%  magnesium sulfate, is a slow release fertilizer, blended at the recommendation of University of Florida palm expert, Dr. Tim Broschat. Blended ideally for palms, the 100% polymer coated slow release nitrogen, ammonium phosphate, polymer coated sulfate of potash, chelated iron (Fe) and other elements in 8-2-12 + 4% Mg deliver optimal levels of nutrients to palms and other vegetation, like shrubs, trees, citrus and turf. Most importantly, 8-2-12 + 4% Mg provides an initial boost of nutrients, while minimizing potential secondary and micronutrient deficiencies, typically seen in palm trees. The slow release nitrogen in 8-2-12 + 4% provides nutrients to lawns and landscapes for up to 3 months.

What is the suggested application rate of Big earth blend 8-2-12?

Stewart, our resident fertilizer consultant, recommends using 13lbs of Big Earth Blend 8-2-12, per 1,000 sq ft.

To further simplify the application rate, divide the space into a 10×10 area, which is the equivalent of 100 square feet and apply 1.3lbs or 21 ounces directly under the canopy of the palm tree or other vegetation. Of course, smaller palms will need less fertilizer, which you can apply by hand (don’t forget gloves!) or a hand spreader.

Pro Tip: Your application rate should be based on the amount of square feet under the palm canopy.

The good news is that our palm fertilizers have a coating that makes them release very slowly, so it is difficult to over apply and damage anything. Realistically, the only way to cause damage to a palm is to dump the fertilizer in piles, rather than spreading it evenly.
