A Great Source of Calcium for Chickens
89 limerock and 250 sand are both great sources of calcium supplements for poultry.
Below are some quick links to articles on this topic:
Controlling Pathogens Calcium in Limestone Calcium for ChickensI have chickens and they always need this stuff. It is actually pretty expensive buying lime and it comes in a small bag. I switched to buying a yard of 89 limerock instead of the costly small bags of lime from other suppliers. I just throw it in the coop. Chickens scratch all day. They hunt and peck. I suggest people try this; get a yard and throw it right in the coop with the chickens. The chickens will only consume what their body tells them they need for production. When I don’t see any more or the shells seem fragile, I throw more in. Lime is a great source of calcium. Though free range chickens don’t need it; chickens in a coop need supplement.
