Ranging in size from 1/2″ pieces and down, small washed shell is our most popular shell for mulch alternative, pathways and decorative areas.

Small Shell Specifications
Medium Washed Shell
Whole pieces of washed shell ranging in size from 1-3″. Medium Washed Shell has the potential to contain pieces of limerock, due to the screen size in the screening process. Medium shell is most popular in driveway or parking lot applications where it will receive more foot or vehicular traffic.

Medium Shell Specifications
Color of Washed Shell
Just as the name states, both small and medium shell is washed during the screening process. There will still be “pit dust” as we affectionately call it, because it is an aggregate and is mined from the ground. Washed shell is predominately white, but ranges in color from tan to grey throughout. You can expect washed shell to look dirty at first, but once the material is installed, it will lighten up to a vibrant white color and smaller pieces will move to the bottom.
How To Select Washed Shell
All Big Earth locations stock small washed shell, while Big Earth Bradenton, Palmetto and Sarasota stock small and medium washed shell. If you are in the Tampa market and would like a quote for medium shell, just contact us and we would be happy to help!
We kindly ask that you select washed shell that corresponds with the availability for your local store. For example, if you live in Ruskin, please select Small Washed Shell, which will be provided by our Tampa store.
