installation instructions
Using a marking paint, a rope or hose, identify the installation area for Plastic Recycled Railroad Ties.
Using a spade or shovel, dig a trench at least 1-2″ deep and 6-8″ wide along the projected installation area. For best results, use a compactable base like screenings, 89 limerock or crushed concrete to create an level installation surface.
Pro Tip: It is suggested to “rough” the design at this step in installation, as it is easier to fill in additional soil than remove even more soil, once the railroad tie has been placed in the trench.
Place the Recycled Plastic Railroad Tie in the trench. We recommend using a contractors level to ensure accuracy and consistency when placing the railroad ties.
To secure railroad ties to the ground or to each other, predrill a hole every 2′ to prepare for a 24″ piece of rebar. Then, hammer the piece of rebar through the drilled hole, through the railroad tie(s) and into the ground.
Pro Tip: We suggest using at least 4 pieces of rebar, per 8′ section
Lastly, backfill the trench around the front and back of the railroad ties, using a tamp or your foot – you have successfully installed Recycled Plastic Railroad Ties!
